All Things Rutulante

So true, I am indeed of stock and breed of the Rutulante house from Italy.  According to my father my grandparents came from Abruzzo, province of L’Aquila sometime in the late 1800’s and early 1900s to New York.   My father and his sisters and my grandmother changed our name to Rutland in 1948 because that’s what you did back when family culture wasn’t worshiped and idolized as it is today.  Nevertheless, I’m proud of my Italian heritage and regularly ensure that my own children know of it.

  1. Greetings from the NY Rutulante’s. My grandfather came over from Capestrano with his family in early 1900’s and settled in upstate NY, his brother in the Bronx. We just had a family reunion last week (one of the 4 children from the brothers from Italy recently passed away, so was a chance to all get together after that). I know it’s been many years since this original post, and I know my mother Gloria has been in contact with some “Rutlands” in CA, but not sure which ones. There was also talk when our grandparents came of some of the family going to South America and Venezuela, and I have found 3 or 4 more Rutulante cousins in South America that only speak Spanish and Italian. My mother has traced Rutulante family history back many, many generations and is always working on family history, and has the records from Italy also. If interested in comparing notes contact us. My mom was born in 1948, and I want to say it was 1919 that her father and family came over. The 2 brothers each had 2 children (2 boys and 2 girls) and last week the 8 grandchildren (myself included) and I believe 9 great grandchildren of my grandfather were all invited or participating. Was first time we had all been together in about 30 years . A lot of our family went to Mamaroneck and Iron Mt Michigan I know too. But my mom is the expert, and has talked to other Rutulantes from Italy and California. Would be interesting to see where the families meet up. My grandfather was Ercole Dominic Rutulante (and I’m Eric Dominic). Was actually looking at domain names for a possible family project to collect all the data and photos we have and for a family website/blog type thing. As well as all the work my mother has done for decades on tracing the Rutulante family back (I know she has gotten back to the year 200 AD on some of the family lines) all are uploaded and verified and part of the Family History Center the Mormon Church has. I’m not as well versed in it all as my mom, she has worked in the local center as a volunteer and helps many people begin their search for family roots using the free most comprehensive family history information center I think there is that is kept by the Mormon church but available for anyone. LDS.org is the website to go to for family history information, I think you can go in put in your name and see what comes up. My mom has done much work, and many others have also done much work at some point the two meet up and then double the information on the family. Was very surprised to find a rutulante.com site looking at domain names for a Rutulante family project some of the cousins are thinking about, so figured I’d drop you a note and introduce myself and some of your NY cousins and relatives that kept Rutulante as last name when they came to Ellis Island in early 1900’s. We have found other Rutland’s who had the name changed when they came over. But all of the ones came at that time kept the original name, the ones here and in South America. Nice to meet you! And I have to add all my info is correct to my knowledge, but my mother is the expert and anything I am wrong about she would have the exact info. Take care and Viva Italia!! 🙂

  2. Never mind my last comment, you are the same Rutland with a different webpage than you had previously, and I see my mother already spoke to you….didn’t see the comment until too late. So I’m sure any info either wanted or shared was already done. I think your name is Steve if I’m correct and it’s the same from the former website you had about Rutland and having your name changed, which was first any of us had ever known of changes like that since everyone that came in early 1900’s kept Rutulante, so was very surprised when first learned about Rutland connection. Anyway, hope all is well and take care.
